The free event, held on Monday 1st April at Stoke Newington School, saw a range of national and local education figures come together to discuss the challenges facing the borough and the countries school system.

In the midst of a national funding crisis for our nation’s school, Hackney’s two Constituency Labour Parties joined forces with Hackney Socialist Education Association to host the event which gave local people the chance to quiz a panel of education experts and share their views of what the education priorities should be for a Labour Government.

Panellists were:

  • Hackney Deputy Mayor, Cllr Anntoinette Bramble, Deputy Mayor and Cabinet member for education, young people and children’s social care
  • Kevin Courtney, Joint General Secretary of the National Education Union
  • Pat Quigley, Headteacher, The Garden School, Hackney
  • Daniel Walsh, student, The City Academy and Hackney North Labour Youth Officer

You can watch the answers they gave to the first question on the increase in school exclusions in the video below.
