At our all-member meeeting on 28th June, we passed the motion below to organise to oppose the rise the far right:
Hackney South CLP:
Notes with alarm the 15000 strong Free Tommy Robinson march held in London on 9th July. The event was an aggressive Islamophobic rally with speakers from the UK and European far right, and was attended by the DFLA (Democratic Football Lads Alliance) whose members include the neo-Nazi group who organised the demonstration targeting Hackney’s Jewish community back in 2015.
Commends Trade unionists and anti-racist activists who opposed the mobilisation and refused to be silenced whilst the far right protesters tried repeatedly to attack the counter-demonstration after one speaker openly threatened ‘We are coming for the Left’ from the platform which was greeted by loud chants and applause.
Condemns these mobilisations, which are been used to whip up racism and Islamophobia. For example, following a similar Free Tommy Robinson march in Leeds a mosque and a Sikh temple were attacked.
Calls on the Labour Party nationally and locally to publicise and mobilise for any future counter-demonstration called in response to proposed marches by the DFLA or the Free Tommy Robinson campaign.
