Everyone is welcome to join us for a public meeting on the Community Wealth Movement and what it means for Hackney. In cities and towns across Britain, local councils are advancing new economic strategies to in-source services and democratise ownership, improve how government works, increase wages, enhance working conditions, and invigorate participation in economic decision-making. Community wealth building supports democratic collective ownership of — and participation in the economy through a range of initiatives from worker co-operatives and community land trusts to municipal enterprises and involving front line workers and communities in increasing the effectiveness of local government. Come along to learn from the experiences of putting this approach into practice in Preston, Islington and the US and to discuss how Hackney’s Labour Council can learn, and what it is already doing, to develop community wealth building strategies in our Borough.
The speakers are: Councillor Matthew Brown (Preston), Mayor Philip Glanville (Hackney), Councillor Asima Shaikh (Islington), Ted Howard (the Democracy Collaborative)
